Process Safety Management (PSM) Training and Competency Assessment
The Risk Management, Process Safety and Loss Prevention Center (PRPLC) at Petroleum University of Technology serves as a national center of expertise in process safety education. The Center offers a comprehensive portfolio of specialized Process Safety Management (PSM) courses aligned with CCPS guidelines, OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119, API and NFPA standards, and the requirements of the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum. These programs are designed to enhance the capabilities of oil industry personnel and develop competent process safety professionals who can effectively manage process hazards and prevent incidents in complex operational environments.
The Center’s educational programs are delivered through two distinct training pathways, covering a comprehensive range of topics from foundational principles to advanced applications:
Professional Master’s Program in Process Safety Management (PSM)
Modular Training Program in Risk Management and Process Safety
Process Safety Management (PSM) Professional Competency Examination
For the first time in Iran, the Center will design and administer a professional competency examination for process safety specialists. The examination will pursue the following objectives:
Assessing candidates’ level of specialized process safety knowledge
Evaluating their hazard analysis skills
Verifying their competence in conducting HAZOP and LOPA studies
Determining their appropriate competency levels
Professional Competency Certification
Candidates who complete the required training programs and successfully pass the examination will receive an official professional competency certificate issued by Petroleum University of Technology. This certificate will serve as a valid professional credential for companies operating in the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries.
