The Risk Management, Process Safety and Loss Prevention Center at Petroleum University of Technology was established to serve as a national center of expertise in process safety and operational risk reduction across the oil, gas, refining, and petrochemical industries. Built on a strong foundation of academic knowledge and extensive industry experience, the Center seeks to strengthen safety culture and reduce losses arising from process incidents through applied research, targeted training, independent audits, and professional consultancy services. One of its principal missions is to develop the scientific and operational infrastructure required for systematic hazard analysis, safety performance monitoring, equipment integrity management, and the implementation of standardized Process Safety Management systems in accordance with internationally recognized frameworks such as CCPS, OSHA, and API, as well as the requirements of the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum.
Drawing on leading experts from academia and industry, the Center serves as an advisory arm of the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum in process safety. Its mission is to deliver practical, scientifically grounded, and data-driven solutions for preventing incidents, reducing operational risks, and enhancing production sustainability. By establishing process incident databases, developing risk analysis models, delivering competency-based training programs, undertaking industrial projects, examining lessons learned, and documenting real-world experience, the Center provides a platform that enables organizations to make informed decisions and advance their safety maturity. Building extensive collaboration with research institutes, subsidiaries of the Ministry of Petroleum, and international organizations is also a key component of the Center’s vision. Through these efforts, the Center aims to become recognized by Iran’s oil industry as a trusted, authoritative, and leading institution in risk management and process safety.
